Some of you have already noticed, but there are a couple of updates with the projections on the Price Guide:
- CHONE projections are now updated to the 02/23 release. Not a big change for most players, but I think it will update the park factors for players that have switched teams since December.
- I have added a Composite projection as the new Price Guide default. This is my own brew of the various projections that should knock some edge off the occasional extreme prediction. It’s mostly CHONE and CAIRO with a little bit extra thrown in.
- I finally decided to list Matt Wieters as a catcher. The Price Guide previously went strictly by games played in 2008 to determine qualifying positions. Since Wieters hasn’t hit the majors yet, he was being counted at Utility. Counting him as a catcher significantly changes his value.
- The Price Guide results now show the league average in each category for your league. Currently that’s more helpful for counting stats than for rate stats, but I’ll try to get them all working soon.
Please let me know if you have any opinions about these changes.

any chance of you telling us what the extra is……or is that some sort of secret lol.
BTW I’ve actually done it by hand on excel your method except using the projections I mentioned before, full props to you though for guiding me through it.
@Confused: It’s nothing important… I threw out CHONE’s NPB pitchers, and worked in Marcel’s save projections since CHONE doesn’t have them.
Also, I discoved that it’s a serious pain to align projections when one set insists on including Alexis Rios and the other on Alex Rios, one has Dave Bush and the other has David Bush… (And that’s before you get to the thousands of minor league players that are projected…)
Someone on Fantasy Baseball Cafe posted a set of composite projections of 6 or 7 different sources. He didn’t say which ones, but he’s solved the alignment question so you wouldn’t want it. Let me know if you’d like it and can’t find it, Mays.
@mulkowsky: I saw that one, and it was a primary inspiration for adding mine.
I ended up getting all of the player names straightened out eventually. (I may have missed a few guys in the low minors, but no one with a fantasy impact.)
Any chance you include the projections that mulkowsky mentioned,if their already aligned it shouldn’t be too much trouble would it? JW love your site I just stumbled upon it from a link at the baseball cafe.
@Mays: You’re awesome. Thanks.
Any chance you can change (or add in) xAVG to display what you assume is the league AVG?
Same with xERA and xWHIP.
That’s the eventual plan. :-)
