Want to Upload Your Own Projections?

I’m working on a new feature for the Price Guide — the ability to upload your own projections to use when generating player values.

I’m still getting the details worked out, but I’m looking for some people who would like to try it out. If you are interested in testing this out, leave a comment below or email me (mcopeland@lastplayerpicked.com), and I will send you the link to access it.

I’d be interested in trying it out.

  2. BobbyRoberto says:

I’d like to try it out, but how soon do I need to have my projections done and for how many players?

  3. Dave says:

    I’ll give it a whirl.

  4. Mays says:

I’ve emailed all of you a link to the upload feature at the email you used for commenting.

@Bobby: It’s completely automated, so you can do your projections whenever you like. You can revise and re-upload your projections an indefinite number of times.

There’s a template based on the current composite projections to get you started, but you are free to project as many or as few players as you like.

I’d be interested in giving it a shot as well. Cool idea

  6. Hey Mays, would love to give this a shot and see how close the values I get from my method compares with your Price Guide. Thanks.

    Hi Mays,

    Me too please!

    Thanks for doing this.

  8. Mays says:

Everyone who has commented since my last post should have an email.

I’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who is knowledgeable about server security. I think I’ve covered my bases to prevent any malicious uploads, but I’d love for someone to (gently) verify that.

  9. Chris says:

This would nice. I’ve been using your system on excel with my own projections and it can consume some time that’s for sure.. I’d love the link.

    Thanks Mays.

  10. Nick J says:

    I’d love to play, too.

  11. Chitown says:

If your still sending emails I’d love to test it out.

  12. V says:

I’d love to help you test this out as well.

#9 (Chris) — how do you use this system in Excel? Do you write out the formulas yourself, or has Mays already put this out and I missed it? I’d really like to be able to play with this all in Excel.

Thanks, Mays, for putting all this work out for everyone

  13. Chris says:

    V,

Mays has openly discussed the inner-workings of the Price Guide in a few articles on here. Everything I’ve put together was from scratch.

  14. Nick J says:

Anybody have any suggestions for ways to make adding the MLBAM IDS to a set of projections any easier? Or is that the super time-intensive portion of the process?

  15. Mays says:

It’s looking like including the MLBAM IDs is more trouble than it is worth… I’ve removed them from the templates to avoid confusion.

If you already have projections in a spreadsheet, I think this is the easiest way to do things:

    - Rename the column headings in your spreadsheet to match the template. For a standard league you must include:

    playerName
    defaultPos
    AB
    H
    R
    RBI
    HR
    SB

    playerName
    defaultPos
    IP
    BB
    H
    ER
    K
    W
    S

The order doesn’t matter. Adding “team” will make it look nicer but is not required. AL/NL only leagues need to include “league”, even if you’re only projecting players in your league. If you use keepers, the “keeperPrice” column will automatically calculate inflation but is also not required.

    - Save the hitters and pitchers in two separate .csv files (“Save As” option in Excel).

    -Upload the files.

  16. Mays says:

Just a couple of updates on the upload feature:

    - I’ve fixed a bug for uploads from Macs. If you are on a Mac and have had problems, please try it again and see if things are better.

    - I’ve updated the upload page with (hopefully) better instructions. Also, a sample of the file you uploaded will be displayed immediately. That way, you can tell right away (before entering your league settings) whether the format was correct.

  17. Michael says:

I’d like to give this a try.
    Thanks!

  18. LittlePanda says:

    Hey,

I may have missed it, but has anyone found or figured out the proper format for giving players multi-position eligibility?

  19. Mays says:

@LittlePanda: You didn’t miss it, but that’s because I just now added it. :-)

In the “defaultPos” column, enter positions in any order, separated by either a ” ” or a “/”. So:

    1B/C
    OF 2B 3B

  20. LittlePanda says:

    Mays,

Wow, thanks for that update. BUT (always a but :-p), now it lists, say, Victor Martinez as two identical, multi-position eligible players. Even if you go to just “Catchers,” there are two V-Marts of equal value.

I tried to manually edit one of the V-Marts to make him worthless, but strangely, when I did that, it affected Joe Mauer’s stats! It ALSO affected Mauer’s stats when, a second time, I made a small adjustment to one of the two Pablo Sandoval’s stats. I reduced one of the Sandoval’s HR totals by just a couple, and the edit was reflected in Mauer’s stats!

For what it’s worth, Mauer was the first name listed in the file I uploaded, and also the most valuable…

  21. LittlePanda says:

OK, the problem was on my end. I had the player listed twice in my files. D’oh!
